WHAT IS FADO?
- Fado is a Portuguese music genre popularized in Lisbon Portugal in the 1800s. It is a genre of music influenced by strong and powerful melancholic emotions as evident within its sound.
- A typical Fado band consists of one singer which is usually a woman (a Fadista) , and traditionally two guitarists.
- Fado incorporates the use of a Portuguese traditional 12 string guitar within its sound called a viola, known for its rich sound that adds dimension to these emotion driven performances.
- The vocal technique is dramatized incorporating the use of guttural sounds and wailing to convey complex and unbridled emotions.
- As for the band’s attire the dress code matches the sombre atmosphere of the music the men adorning smart black suits and the female singer wearing black dress and traditionally a shawl.
- Fado is an essential part of Portuguese culture, its cultural impact making it still relevant to this day.

You don´t need to prepare for the workshop, all the materials will be provided.
Yes. This workshop is ideal for the bachelorette, team building, friends gathering or any kind of private events.
You should inform us at least 2 days before the event. In this case you can attend the workshop with the next group. Please note that we do not make a refund unless the session is cancelled from our side.
