Join us in an engaging painting experience based on the moving and invigorating sound of Fado, a Portuguese traditional music medium meant to outwardly convey emotions in their truest form. Let the music envelop you and guide your brush strokes, as you are transported into a world of raw emotion and expression through the playing of live Fado music. Allowing the vibe and mood to direct your choice of colours, composition and texture.
No prior painting experience required, simplistic painting prompts are given, so you can let your creativity run wild when depicting your own physical exposition of the atmosphere and sounds of Portugal.
This painting workshop is great for any kind of event, ranging from corporate events, bachelorette parties, tourist groups etc. This workshop combines culture, bonding, creativity and emotion, creating room for memories that are sure to last.
Workshop Duration: 1.5–2 hours
Outcome: Completed abstract canvas + cultural art experience

Brief Fado introduction
Fado is a Portuguese music genre popularized in Lisbon Portugal in the 1800s. It is a genre of music influenced by strong and powerful melancholic emotions as evident within its sound. A typical Fado band consists of one singer which is usually a woman (a Fadista) , and traditionally two guitarists. Fado incorporates the use of a Portuguese traditional 12 string guitar within its sound called a viola known for its rich sound that adds dimension to these emotion driven performances. The vocal technique is dramatized incorporating the use of guttural sounds and wailing to convey complex and unbridled emotions. As for the band’s attire the dress code matches the sombre atmosphere of the music the men adorning smart black suits and the female singer wearing black dress and traditionally a black shawl. Fado is an essential part of Portuguese culture, its cultural impact making it still relevant to this day.
